First Half Lookback: Virginia Tech Spring Game

BLACKSBURG – The Maroon squad holds a commanding 21-7 lead over the orange team heading into the second half of the Virginia Tech football's spring game, presented by PMSI.
 
In Blacksburg, thousands of Hokie fans have gathered to witness head coach Brent Pry's third spring game, where Virginia Tech's athleticism, speed and notable improvement have been proudly on display.
 
Quarterback Kyron Drones has been a standout, displaying his skill by completing six passes out of 10 attempts for 122 yards, including a remarkable 66-yard connection with running back Malachi Thomas.
 
Another heavy hitter on the maroon team is running back P.J. Prioleau, who notched a 22-yard receiving touchdown and amassed 59 total rushing yards, with his longest run being 31 yards.
 
The Maroon team's dominance has extended beyond offense, as defensive lineman Keyshawn Burgos made a significant impact early on by breaking up a pass on the Orange team's first drive, setting up a crucial interception by fellow lineman Kemari Copeland. Burgos further showcased his prowess by sacking quarterback William 'Pop' Watson III three times for a loss of 24 yards and securing a fumble recovery, anchoring the Maroon team's defensive effort.
 
Defensive lineman Jason Abbey also contributed with two sacks against Watson for a loss of 16 yards, establishing himself as a defensive leader for the Maroon team.
 
On the Orange team, receivers Ali Jennings and Jaylin Lane have been leading in receptions, with Jennings totaling 45 yards and Lane closely following with 18. Both have connected effectively with Watson, who completed 11 of 18 attempts for 119 yards. Watson also scored the lone touchdown for the Orange squad with a six-yard rushing touchdown.
 
Running back Jeremiah Coney was another standout for the orange team, accumulating 51 rushing yards, including a 33-yard rush. On the defensive side, Jennings made an impact with a tackle and a forced fumble, while star Stephon Hicks applied pressure on Drones, completing a sack for a loss of seven yards.
