Hokies place first and second in the men's 800m

Day One Results

BLACKSBURG –  Senior Ben Nagel crossed the finish line first for Virginia Tech in the men's 800m on day one of the Doc Hale Meet in Blacksburg, Va. Nagel clocked an indoor personal-best time of 1:50.30. Viktor Idhammar followed closely behind in second clocking in a time of 1:51.38. 

In the women's 800m, Grace Boone fought hard to takeover the lead from Alahna Sabbakhan of Virginia in the final 400m. In the final lap, Boone fell back to second crossing the line at 2:09.96, Sabbakhan finished first (2:09.73). 

Junior Alec Fleming won the men's 3000m recording a season-best time of 8:21.31. Fleming ran sub-32 in the opening lap to help set the tone for the race. With the pacers gone, Fleming controlled the race as the men had 1000m to go. Fleming remained unpassed in the final five laps to win the race. 

Pole Vault 
Looking at a three-way tie for first, Emily Conner entered the pole vault jump-off after clearing a personal-best height of 12'11.5" (3.95m). After four unsuccessful attempts at 13'3.5" (4.05m), the bar dropped to 13'1.5 (4.00m). Conner and Samantha Romano of Virginia were unable to clear 13'1.5 (4.00m) ending in a tie for second. Anjali Mead of High Point won the event being the only athlete to clear the bar at 13'1.5 (4.00m).  Junior Lucy Brookover cleared a personal-best height of 11' 7.75" (3.55m). 

Sprints 
Freshman Maximus James won the second section of the men's 400m dash with a time of 49.12. After combining the results from six sections, James finished fourth. 

Day Two of the Doc Hale Meet begins at 11:00 a.m. with the women's pole vault (seeded).
