Hokies continue to swim multiple top times

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The Hokies traveled to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the NC State Invitational, Nov. 16-18. Tech swam against NC State, Duke, Arizona State, Penn State and Army. The Tech women finished in fourth with a score of 1,014. The Tech men finished in third with a score of 1,289.5. 

Tech Women
The women started the invitational strong in the 200 Yard Free Relay finals. Carmen Weiler Sastre, Caroline Bentz, Emily Claesson, and Anna Summers placed 2nd in the 200 Yard Free Relay with a time of 1:29.72. The relay team followed this performance by placing fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:17.71. 

Bentz continued to stun throughout the competition breaking Virginia Tech records. She placed second in the 100 back with a time of 52.55. This is the third fastest time ever for Virginia Tech women. With the sixth-fastest time for Virginia Tech women, Bentz placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.51. She finished the invitational placing first in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.43. This is the second-fastest time for the Virginia Tech women and the fastest time in the country. 

Chase Travis continues to show great times in the distance races. Travis placed third in the women's 500 free with a time of 4:41.73. This is the fifth fastest time for Virginia Tech women and the 10th fastest time in the country. She followed this with another top time performance in the 1650 free. Travis placed fourth with a time of 16:16.74 which was the fifth fastest time by a Virginia Tech women and the eighth-fastest time in the country. 

Weiler Sastre also had a record breaking performances. She placed fifth in the 50 free with a time of 22.45. This is the ninth-fastest time for a Virginia Tech woman. Weiler Sastre then competed in the 200 free and placed seventh with a time of 1:47.35. This performance is the 10th-fastest time by a Virginia Tech woman. 

Tech Men 
The Hokie men also started off strong, with Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, Brendan Whitfield, and Mario Molla Yanes placing third in the 200 Yard Free Relay with a time of 1:17.55. This is the ninth-fastest time by the Virginia Tech men and the fifth-fastest time in the country. 

Ramadan, Coll Marti, Molla Yanes and Tanish George Mathew placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.30. This is the sixth-fastest time by the Virginia Tech men and the fifth-fastest time in the country.  

In the 400 medley relay, Ramadan, Coll Marti, Molla Yanes and William Hayon placed fourth with a time of 3:07.28. This is the eighth-fastest time for the Virginia Tech men and the ninth-fastest in the country. 

Coll Marti continued to have marvelous performances throughout the rest of the invitational. Coll Marti placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 52.53. This performance is the fifth-fastest time for the Virginia Tech men and the 15th-fastest in the country. Coll Marti then had another top time performance by placing second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:53.56. This is the fifth-fastest time for the Virginia Tech men and the 11th-fastest time in the country. AJ Pouch was right behind Coll Marti placing fifth with a time of 1:56.29. This is the ninth-fastest time for the Virginia Tech men. 

Ramadan continued showing his speed throughout the meet, placing 3rd in the 50 Yard Free with a time of 18.97. This is the second-fastest time for the Virginia Tech men and the second-fastest time in the country.
