SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 10 in Spartansburg, S.C.
Senior Lindsey Butler crossed the finish line first for the Hokie women placing 28th with a time of 20:34.3. Butler climbed four spots in the final 1000m running a 5.31 pace throughout the 6k.
Ava Hassebrock scored 43rd clocking in a time 20:57.3, followed by Hannah Ballowe scoring 59th (21:10.6) and Mary Kate McGranahan scoring 63rd (21:13.7).
Freshman Lila Waters rounded out the team's scoring running a personal-best time of 21:21.5, scoring 72nd. The Virginia Tech women's team placed seventh (265 points) at Regionals as NC State claimed its seventh-consecutive championship.
The men's team finished 12th at Milliken Research Park scoring a team total of 348 point. North Carolina claimed the regional title with 38 points.
Sophomore Declan Rymer led the men's team placing 40th with a personal-best 10k time of 30:09.3. Sam Hubert clocked in second for the Hokies stopping the clock at 30:44.0 (68th).
Ryan Chevalier finished 76th (30:55.0), followed by Arnav Tikhe in 80th (31:02.0), and Ben Nagel in 84th (31:05.5).
The 2023 cross country selection show will air live on NCAA.com at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. 31 teams per gender will be selected for the championships. 18 on each side will automatically qualify (two per region, from regional championships) while the remaining 13 for each of the men's and women's championships will be picked at large.
