AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Cole Beck opened the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for Virginia Tech on Wednesday clocking a school-record time of 9.97 in the 100m semifinals.
Beck earned an automatic spot into the finals placing second in heat one, his time of 9.97 was the fourth fastest time of the day. He advances to the finals for the first time in his career being the only Hokie in program history to run sub-10 in the 100m. Beck bested his own school-record time of 10.05 set at the East Prelims two weeks ago in Jacksonville, Fla.

The men's 100m finals are scheduled to take place on Friday at 9:52 p.m. (ET).
Freshman Nick Plant earned second team All - American honors finishing 12th in the 800m with a time of 1:49.17. Plant finished fourth in his heat as the pack dashed their way down the final 100-meters.

Julia Fixsen, Journey Gurley, Kenna Stimmel, and Hayley Horvath are scheduled to compete in pole vault at 8:30 p.m. (ET). Lindsey Butler is set to compete in the 800m semifinals at 10:14 p.m. (ET).
Senior Essence Henderson will close out the day in the women's shot put scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. (ET).
