Lopez Miro, Ramadan & Zawadzki earn VaSID honors

BLACKSBURG – Sergio Lopez Miro, Youssef Ramadan and Noah Zawadzki earned individual VaSID honors for the 2022-23 season, announced by the organization on Wednesday. 

Lopez Miro was named the men's VaSID Coach of the Year following his historic season leading the men to their highest NCAA finish in program history. The men placed ninth with 133 points, and Ramadan became the program's first-ever NCAA Champion. They accumulated a total of six All-American honors and four honorable mentions. Earlier in the season, the men made their highest ACC finish since 2014, placing second with 1008 points and earning 11 medals. 

During his freshman year, Ramadan earned VaSID Rookie of the Year and has moved his way up to Swimmer of the Year for the 2022-23 season. He became the first NCAA Champion in program history, swimming the 100 fly at 43.15. Ramadan earned three individual All-American honors and two relay honors at the championships. He received multiple ACC awards throughout the season. Ramadan became male MVP, Swimmer of the Year, and was named Swimmer of the Week twice throughout the season. Ramadan collected two gold medals at ACC's, swimming the 100 free at 41.33 and the 100 fly at 43.93. 

Earning VaSID diver of the week for the third year in a row, Zawadzki was also named to the Second Team All-State. He qualified for all three diving events at NCAA's and earned an All-American honorable mention in the 1-meter event with a score of 373.50, placing 11th. Making his way to the podium at ACC's, Zawadzki placed third on platform with a score of 384.45. He took home multiple wins this season, placing first in both 1-meter and 3-meter against Penn State and George Washington as well as placing first in 3-meter versus Virginia. 

Four Hokie women were named to the Second Team All-State as well as five women's relays. Five men were recognized as VaSID First Team All-State, along with four relays. On the Second Team All-State, five more men were named with two more relays.
