BLACKSBURG – The Hokies swam strong during day two of the Virginia Tech Invitational, breaking four more pool records at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center and swimming three more top 10 times in Hokie history.
HIGHLIGHTS
Women
The women's team never forgets to show out and started the night with a new pool record and the second-fastest time in Virginia Tech history in the 200 medley relay with the time of 1:37.82 held by Emma Atkinson, Fanni Gyurinovics, Karisa Franz and Madelyn Moore.
The team kept pushing as they entered the women's 400 IM won by Chase Travis with a time of 4:20.12 followed by her teammate Sydney DeBaecke at a time of 4:25.99, and wrapping up the top three times of the event was Brooke Zettel finishing at 4:28.52.
Keeping up the stamina was Franz in the 100 fly with a time of 53.32 placing her first in the event.
In the 200 free, Carmen Weiler Sastre kept up the hard work and led the Hokies to a first-place win at a time of 1:46.95.
Charlotte Rigg brought her speed when she finished the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.97, finishing first.
Rounding out the women's events was the 100 back where Atkinson finished first with a time of 52.19, breaking the pool record.
The Hokie women swept the 1-meter diving event. Izzi Mroz placed first with a score of 298.30, with teammate Grace Austin finishing second with a score of 289.70 and Miah Fisher right behind her in third with a score of 279.35. Mroz placed third in the women's 3-meter diving event with a final score of 333.30.
Men
The men's team was nothing less than fast during the 200 medley relay with the team of Forest Webb, Cobi Lopez Miro, Youssef Ramadan and Carles Coll Marti finishing first with time of 1:25.29 placing them at the ninth fastest time in Virginia Tech history.
Keith Myburgh did not hesitate to show his diversity in the pool when he swam the 400 IM and finished first with a time of 3:48.85.
Ramadan never fails when it comes to the 100 fly when he broke the pool record and placed first at 44.42. Ramadan held the top time in the country after swimming the 100 fly at 44.76 against Penn State, but he beat that time tonight and still holds the top time in the country.
Luis Dominguez shredded up the pool in the 200 free with a first-place time of 1:34.87, Ramadan followed behind with a time of 1:35.47, and Nico Garcia Saiz was just behind his teammates when he finished at 1:36.50.
Not for a moment is it upsetting to see the Hokies step up to swim the men's 100 breast especially when Coll Marti continued to dominate the pool, breaking the pool record and placing his time of 51.50 second in Virginia Tech history. His time is currently fourth in the nation.
Wrapping up day two was the men's 100 back led by Webb with a time of 47.06, followed by Will Koeppen finishing at 47.28, and clearing the top three was Gabriel Yuk completing the day with a time of 47.52.
On the boards, diver Noah Zawadzki placed second in the men's 1-meter diving event with a final score of 376.05 and second in the 3-meter event with a score of 374.60.
