BLACKSBURG – Star Price ran a personal-best time of 14:50.3 at the Hokie Open in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday, shaving off over two minutes from her previous best time of 16:57.3 (4k). Price crossed the line first for the Hokie women finishing in fourth place.
The men's cross country started the day for the Hokies in a 6k race out at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course. Blake Fairbanks led the team clocking in 17th with a personal-best time of 19:38.3. William Jones finished 22 with a time of 20:12.8, followed by Jason Dolan in 23rd with a time of 20:18.4.
Freshman Rachel Mudd ran her second 4k meet of the season, finishing within the top 15 in both meets. Mudd ran a time of 15:59.6 finishing 13th at the Hokie Open, she finished 11th at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Sept. 2 with a personal-best time of 15:48.8. Maxanna Grubb closed down the course for the Hokies in the final home meet stopping the clock at 17:02.8, finishing 20th.
The Hokies will next compete at the Southeast Regional on Nov. 11 in Louisville, Ky. The men's cross country team is currently ranked ninth in the region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, women's team is ranked 10th.
