Hokies make their mark in Columbus

OSU Invite Day 3 Results

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Hokies wrapped up the Ohio State Invitational, with the men and women both placing fourth. The men finished with a score of 1,523 and the women finished with 1,281.  

HIGHLIGHTS

Women

Virginia Tech dominated the 100 free during day three. Freshman Emily Claesson made it on Tech's top 10 list in the 100 free during the preliminary round with a time of 49.01, later beating that time in finals finishing fourth with a time of 48.54. Her time is currently fourth in school history. Madelyn Moore also gave a strong performance in the 100 free with a time of 49.36 in the preliminary round, becoming Tech's tenth fastest time in school history. Moore later went on the beat that time in finals, finishing fifth with a time of 49.03. Her finals time is currently seventh on the top 10 board. Continuing the strong 100 free performances, Sarah Shackelford made a time of 49.07 in the finals, placing sixth behind Moore. 

Freshman Carmen Weiler Sastre brought her A-game to Columbus. After making multiple top 10 times during the first two days, she continued to show speed in the pool. Weiler Sastre made a time of 1:54.97 in the 200 back during the preliminary round, becoming Tech's seventh fastest time in the top 10. During finals, she dropped two seconds off of her time, finishing second with 1:52.97. Her time is now second in Tech history. 

Weiler Sastre, Claesson, Moore and Fanni Gyurinovics placed third in the women's 400 free relay, finishing with a time of 3:14.73. This time is currently third in school history. 

Men

The women set the bar high in the 100 free and Youssef Ramadan delivered. Ramadan finished first in the 100 free with a time of 42.43. As the first leg of the 400 free relay, Ramadan alongside Mario Molla Yanes, Luis Dominguez and Carles Coll Marti placed second in finals with a time of 2:49.77.

Carles Coll Marti gave a strong performance in the men's 200 breast, placing third in finals with a time of 1:53.41. Teammate Nico Garcia Saiz placed fourth in the men's 200 back, finishing with a time of 1:42.70.
