Hokies turn in stellar performances on final Friday of regular season

BLACKSBURG – As the Hokies gear up to host the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend, several Tech athletes delivered exceptional results on Friday at both the JDL DMR Invitational and Virginia Tech Challenge.

At JDL Fast Track's DMR Invitational, both men's and women's distance medley relay squads posted ridiculous times on the 200m flat track. In the women's race, the team of Leigha Torino, Star Price, Hannah Ballowe, and Lindsey Butler stopped the clock in 11:00.20, which after conversion to a banked track ranks as the No. 2 time in the NCAA and No. 1 in the ACC, and No. 3 all-time at Virginia Tech. The four Hokies also broke JDL Fast Track's previous facility record of 11:04.23.

On the men's side, Ben Fleming, Tyreke Sapp, Seb Anthony, and Antonio Lopez Segura posted a raw time of 9:34.24, also breaking JDL Fast Track's facility record. When converted from the flat track time, the Hokies' DMR leads the ACC and ranks No. 6 in the NCAA.

In the men's 400m at the Virginia Tech Challenge, Kahleje "KJ" Tillmon turned in a personal best to get the win. Tillmon posted a time of 47.65 seconds for first place, moving himself into No. 10 in the ACC and No. 5 all-time at Virginia Tech.

Freshman Layla Anderson posted a massive personal best in the women's 60m hurdles, running 8.48 seconds in the finals of the event to finish in second place. Anderson's time moves her into No. 9 in the ACC this year.

Sam McLendon earned a victory in the men's 60m hurdles with a new lifetime best of 7.85 seconds, and Grace Boone finished first in the women's 800m with her season best time of 2:08.89.

In the men's weight throw, Khalil Bedoui picked up an event win with his lifetime best heave of 21.89m (71' 10"). That mark ranks as the No. 2 weight throw in the ACC and No. 14 in the NCAA this season.

At 1 PM tomorrow the Hokies will honor their 18 senior athletes. Action resumes on Saturday at 11:30 AM with the women's pole vault. Events on the track get started at 2 PM with the 200m.
