Men’s 200 medley relay and 400 free relay break pool record

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech swim and dive team completed the Virginia Tech Invitational in high spirits following a new pool record in the men's 200 medley and 400 free relay at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Sunday evening. 
 
The team of Carles Coll Marti, Antani Ivanov, Blake Manoff and Youssef Ramadan now hold the record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:25.33, beating the previous record by two tenths of a second. The same team also broke the pool record in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:51.58, the second best time in both program history and the ACC.

 DAY TWO 
 BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech swim and dive team celebrated senior night and broke records on Saturday evening at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
 
Following last night's strong performance, the Hokies hit five top-10 times tonight and a pool record.
 
HOKIE MEN
Freshman Youssef Ramadan clocked in an impressive time of 45.68 in the 100 fly, breaking the pool record. This time is the second fastest in school history and currently the eighth fastest time in the country.
 
Carles Coll Marti swam 53.51 in the 100 breast, securing him the fifth best time in the program. Ryan Vipavetz hit the eighth best time in program history swimming 1:44.32 in the 200 fly.
 
HOKIE WOMEN
Reka Gyorgy swam 1:57.35 in the 200 fly and hit the third fastest in program history. Joelle Vereb secured herself the eighth best time in school history, swimming 53.14 in the 100 back.
 
Teagan Moravek has dominated the 1M once again, remaining in first place with a score of 302.78. Izzi Mroz took third scoring 256.20.
 
 
CELEBRATING OUR SENIORS
The Hokies celebrated the 13 seniors on the squad with a senior night. Learn about our seniors by reading their accomplishments that were read on Saturday to honor the athletes.
 
Abby Andrusin
Abby was an ACC finalist for the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle in 2020. In addition, she is a member of the dean's list, AD honor roll, and was honored second team academic all-american. She will be graduating with a degree in international relations with a minor in Arabic and middle eastern studies, she plans to pursue a career with the Department of Justice in Dallas.
 
Reka Gyorgy
Reka was a member of the 2016 hungarian olympic team, a 2-time ACC champion and All-American. In addition, Reka was 3-times honorable mention All-American and 4-times school record holder. She will be getting a degree in human development with a minor in psychology and disabilities studies. Reka plans to stay in the US and work as an ABA therapist.
 
Emily Meilus
Emily is a 3-time lettered athlete and a 4-time member of the ACC team, including scoring at ACC's every year of competition. Emily has been recognized on the dean's list, AD honor roll, and ACC academic honor roll. In addition, she is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Virginia Tech Chapter and a member of Inspiring Women in Lifelong Learning club. Emily will be receiving a degree in chemical engineering with a minor in chemistry and green engineering. After graduation, Emily will stay at Virginia Tech to pursue a master's degree, followed by a PhD in nuclear engineering with a focus on molten salt reactors.
 
Molly Sheffield
Molly is a 3-time lettered athlete and scored in the 100 fly at ACC's her sophomore year. She was chosen to attend the NCAA careers in sports forum in the summer of 2020. Additionally, Molly was recognized on the dean's list from the spring of 2018 through fall of 2020, and earned a 4.0 GPA in the fall of 2020.  She will be getting a degree in communication science and social inquiry with a minor in psychology and leadership and social change. Molly plans to pursue a career in education.
 
Joelle Vereb
Joelle is  a 2-time all-american and 2-time all-american honorable mention. Additionally, Joelle has been recognized on the dean's list seven times. She will be getting a degree in human nutrition, food and exercise with a minor in psychology. Joelle plans to pursue a career as a Physicians Assistant.
 
Regan Westwood
Regan is a 3-year NCAA Diving Zone qualifier, 3-time ACC team member, and 2020 NCAA All-American in the 1-meter. Additionally, Regan has been a team captain for two years, a member of the AD honor roll and ACC honor roll. She has been a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society as well as recognized on the dean's list. She will be getting a dual degree in environmental policy and planning along with smart and sustainable cities. Regan plans to complete her Masters at Virginia Tech in Urban and Regional planning in the spring of 2022
 
Ethan Apisa

Connor Doyle
Connor is a 2-time Spirit Award recipient and an ACC team member. In addition, he is a pending published author for studies in soil microbiology, and an overall good time. Connor will be getting a degree in biological science and plans to stay at Virginia Tech to pursue his master's in crop soil and environmental sciences.
 
Thomas Hallock
Thomas is an NCAA qualifier, 4-year ACC qualifier and olympic trial qualifier. Additionally, Thomas is a team record holder in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay. Thomas is a member of the Swiss national team and the athletic dean's list. He is in the accelerated graduate program for aerospace engineering and will finish his master's next spring.
 
David Herbert
David is a team captain, a member of the AD honor roll, and an ACC finalist. David will be graduating with a degree in multimedia journalism and plans to pursue a career in marketing.
 
Alex Hines
Alex maintained a 3.0 GPA in Engineering and published a paper titled "Improving the Cross Correlation Method by Injecting Flow for Indirect Flow Measurement" during an internship at the Nuclear Engineering department of the University of Tennessee. Alex will be getting a degree in industrial & systems engineering and plans to pursue a Master's Degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering while completing his remaining two years of athletic eligibility.
 
Alex McMurry
Alex is a member of the dean's list and the AD honor roll. Alex changed his major four times and almost graduated on time. He is also self-recognized as most likely to be injured. He will be getting a degree in national security and foreign affairs with a minor in spanish. Upon graduation, Alex plans to not get injured and to stay healthy.
 
Lane Stone
Lane is a team record holder, ACC medalist and NCAA finalist. Lane will be getting a degree in creative writing. He plans to apply to a graduate program for technical writing.
 
Samuel Tornqvist
Sam is an ACC Bronze medalist in the 200 back and has a tied school record in the 200 back. In addition, Sam was the winner of the Deloitte coding competition for the BIT department fall 2019. Sam will be getting a degree in business information technology and plans to graduate in fall 2021 or spring 2022.

DAY ONE 

BLACKSBURG
 –  The Virginia Tech swim and dive team had seven top-10 program times at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Friday in the first day of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
 
The Hokies hosted 12 events today including a few time trials. It was mainly Tech swimmers in the water, in addition to a handful of NC State swimmers who are competing this weekend.
 
TECH MEN
Antani Ivanov broke the pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:17.96, beating the previous record of 4:18.36. Ivanov already holds the second fastest time of 4:17.52.
 
Carles Coll Marti also received a top-10 time in the 200 IM. Coll Marti clocked in at 1:43.80, claiming the fourth fastest time in program history.
 
The men's 400 medley relay team of Blake Manoff, Carles Coll Marti, Ivanov and Youssef Ramadan claimed the 10th spot in the record books with a time of 3:09.89.
 
 
TECH WOMEN
The 200 free relay team of Sarah Shackelford, Joelle Vereb, Abby Larson and Caroline Bentz finished with a time of 1:29.36 beating the previous pool record of 1:29.95 and claiming the second fastest time in program history.
 
Freshman Emma Atkinson finished the 500 free with a time of 4:47.12 this is now the tenth fastest time in program history.
 
Although Reka Gyorgy already holds the record in the 200 IM (1:57.11), she maintained another solid time today of 1:58.18.
Sarah Shackelford swam a 22.73 in the 50 free which is now the seventh fastest time in the program, along with Abby Larson who swam 22.78 the eighth fastest time in the program. 
 
The 400 medley relay team of Atkinson, Joelle Vereb, Karisa Franz and Shackelford claimed the seventh fastest time clocking in at 3:35.71.
