Ramadan earns a gold medal and the fastest freshman time in NCAA history

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Youssef Ramadan earned a gold medal in the 100 butterfly, swimming the fastest time ever for a Freshman in the NCAA at 44.32.
 
Ramadan's time also broke the pool record, ACC meet record, tech school record, is the top time in NCAA this season and the third fastest time ever in NCAA history. The freshman broke the meet record Friday morning during the prelims with a time of 44.53, but he came back even stronger for finals to top his time.
 
Antani Ivanov picked up a bronze medal in the 100 fly swimming time of 45.21. Ivanov also contributed to a third place 400 medley relay finish with a time of  3:05.53. In addition, he also medaled in the 200 medley relay.
 
Blake Manoff earned his third medal of the week in the 200 freestyle. Manoff swam a time of 1:32.63, securing him second place in the event. Manoff medaled in both the 800 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay earlier this week.
 
The team of Ivanov, Ramadan, Forest Webb and AJ Pouch took third place in the 400 medley with a time of 3:05.53. This time broke the previous school record by 2 seconds, the previous record was set in 2013.
 
The Hokies sit in second place overall behind Louisville with 767 points. Competition will resume Saturday morning with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. with coverage available through ACCNX.
