Tigers too much for Hokies in Saturday’s ACC contest

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech baseball team was limited to five hits and a Tanner Thomas run as the No. 15 Clemson Tigers cruised to a 14-1 victory on Saturday afternoon in ACC action at English Field at Union Park.

The Tigers (21-6, 8-3 ACC) scored four second-inning runs, using a walk and three straight RBI doubles to make it 3-0 and Elijah Henderson capped the frame with an RBI single.

Tech (16-11, 4-7 ACC) got a run back in the fourth when Tanner Thomas led off with a double and moved to third on a Nick Owens grounder. Dalton Harum then drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center that made it 4-1.

However, the Tigers responded with runs in each of the next three innings, which included a seven-run sixth that broke the game wide open. Bryce Teodosio highlighted the frame with a three-run home run as he led Clemson with four RBI in total.

Mat Clark improved to 6-0 with the victory on the mound, while Peyton Alford, one of 10 Hokie pitchers to take the mound, dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
