BLACKSBURG – After strong showings at home and at the Camel City Invitational last week, the Virginia Tech track and field teams will split up again to compete in two meets this weekend.

The throws and jumps/multi-event groups will head to Clemson, South Carolina for the Tiger Paw Invitational, while the distance group travels to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.

The last time out, the Hokies had six first-place finishes at the "Doc Hale" Elite Meet (VT) and Camel City Invitational (JDL). At the JDL Fast Track, Osman Humeida (5,000) and Ben Fleming (3,000) posted top times, while at home, Shannon Quinn (800), Thierry Siewe Yanga (800), Kennedy Dennis (60 meters), and Jacory Patterson (400 meters) all earned first place finishes.

Patterson also added his name to the Tech record book for the third time this season. His time of 46.14 in the 400 is the sixth-fastest time in the nation, the fastest in the ACC and broke the previous record held by Greg Chiles by over eight-tenths of a second (46.98).

Though he did not turn in a first-place finish, Senior Deakin Volz had a great day as he cleared a season-high 5.55 meters (18 feet, 2.5 inches) to finish first among college athletes and second overall in the pole vault at the Elite Meet.

In the ACC, Tech boasts 19 top-five marks in the conference, while nationally it owns 33 in the top 100
