CLEMSON, S.C. - Virginia Tech’s sprinters wrapped up the Bob Pollock Invitational with eight top-10 finishes on the final day of competition.
“Overall, it was a great meet coming off the cancelled Hokie Invite last weekend,” said sprints, hurdles, and relays coach Tim Vaught. “We had several personal best marks in the two days. It’s great after coming off last weekend and to prepare for next weekend’s Elite Meet.”
The Hokies dominated the 200-meter dash on both the men’s and women’s sides. Junior Dante Prince set a new personal record in his second place finish in 22.10. Darius Watkins rounded out the top five in 22.28 while Jared Bane clinched the 11th position in 22.74.
Nora McKiver continued to improve with another standout performance to earn third place in the 200-meter dash with at time of 24.79. Courtney Blanden, Ama-Selina Tchume, and Shanel Burr crossed the line in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively, while Burr’s 25.54 time earned her a personal best. Freshman Kacia Vines finished narrowly behind in 11th place of 38 sprinters.
Tech continued its momentum with fifth place finishes for both the men and women in the 4x400-meter relay. The men clocked in at 3:21.13, while the women finished in 3:55.43.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Tech’s distance runners took the distance medley relay title to wrap up the JDL Camel City Invitational.
The women’s medley began the day with Tessa Riley taking the lead while Shannon Quinn and Rachel Poctrasky maintained with Katie Kennedy as anchor to place first in 11:40.55.
On the men’s side, Vincent Ciattei led off with Christopher Short and Kevin Cianfarini holding the middle and Juan Campos to anchor the team to a first place finish with a time of 10:01.11.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Pole vaulters Erica Hjerpe and Hannah Meador led the Hokies at the Penn State National Invitational on Saturday.
The pair both cleared the 3.84-meter (12-7.25) mark in the women’s pole vault invite event. Meador’s height earned her a new personal best in the vault.
Three additional Hokies placed in the top-20 of the open pole vault event.
The Virginia Tech track & field team returns to action beginning Feb. 4 through 6 at Rector Fieldhouse, serving host to the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet.
