Danny White

Responsibilities: Danny White was promoted to Deputy Athletics Director in April 2026 and serves as a member of the department's executive leadership team, including oversight of football operations and key strategic initiatives across Virginia Tech Athletics. White, who previously served as Executive Associate Athletics Director, works directly with athletics leadership to advance departmental priorities, enhance the student-athlete experience and support the long-term success of the football program, where he has led as administrator since 2018. White also serves as the athletics representative on the University Athletics Committee.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: White began employment at Virginia Tech in 2007.

At Virginia Tech: Prior to his most recent promotion, White oversaw the Hokie Club, strengthened donor engagement and fundraising efforts through a transformational period in college athletics. Under his leadership, the Hokie Club recorded the highest fundraising total ever achieved in a drive year in 2026 through support of the Hokie Scholarship Fund, premium seating and sport-specific initiatives. White has helped shape Virginia Tech Athletics since joining the department in 2007.

Throughout his career at Virginia Tech, White has provided oversight for student-athlete support and performance units, including sports nutrition, academic support and sports psychology. He also served as the sport administrator for men's and women's swimming and diving, while partnering with university leadership to advance academic success, career development and holistic student-athlete programming across all 22 varsity sports.

White was instrumental in establishing Virginia Tech Athletics' Leadership Institute, creating opportunities for leadership development and global learning experiences for student-athletes. A former chair of the ACC Swimming and Diving Committee, he has remained actively involved in conference and university leadership initiatives throughout his career.

Education: White holds a Ph.D. in planning, governance and globalization and a master’s degree in education from Virginia Tech, and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of South Carolina.

Of Note: White is a former student-athlete and team captain at the University of South Carolina, where he competed in men’s swimming. He is a Boston Marathon qualifier and was named a 2013-14 Favorite Faculty at Virginia Tech.

Personal: Danny and his wife, Meredith (Virginia Tech alumna, 2006), currently reside in Blacksburg. They have five children: Addison, William, Amelia, Abigail and Owen.
