Hokies sweep podium at the Fire Tower Project

Tech men and women finish first for the third consecutive meet.

BOONE, N.C. — The Virginia Tech cross country teams swept the Fire Tower Project meet Friday, with both the men’s and women’s teams finishing first in Boone, N.C.

The women’s team finished with 15 points, tying its best score of the season, matching its performance at the Hokie Invitational. Jule Lindner led the Hokies in her season debut, crossing the line first in the 6K in 20:31.8. She was followed by Brenda Jeptoo, who also finished in 20:31.8, and Emma Lindner in third at 20:33.0, as the Hokies swept the top three spots.

Aniya Mosley finished fourth in her Virginia Tech debut in 20:38.7, while Lila Waters rounded out the Hokies’ scorers in fifth with a collegiate-best time of 20:44.5.

On the men’s side, George Couttie returned to the cross country course and led the Hokies to victory in the 8K, finishing first in 23:55.4. Nixon Kosgei followed in his Virginia Tech debut, finishing second in 23:56.5. Garrett Winter placed fourth in 24:04.2, followed by Michael Bohlke in fifth at 24:05.2. Cameron Davis rounded out the Hokies’ scorers, finishing seventh in 24:17.5.

The men also finished with 19 points, tying their best score of the season, which they set at the Hokie Invitational.

The Hokies will return to action Oct. 3 at the ECE-Fast Times Invitational in Salem, Va., at 11 a.m. ET before continuing their season at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va., hosted by Virginia, at 10:30 a.m. ET.
