CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams kicked off the season hosting Liberty (women only), Penn State and West Virginia (men only).
The women’s squad cruised to a 312-41 win over Penn State and a 240-113 win over Liberty. On the men’s side, the Hokies earned two huge wins over Penn State (265.50-87.50) and West Virginia (264-89).
The Hokies shined on both sides and posted several nationally-ranked top 15 times. Brendan Whitfield’s time of 19.49 in the 50 free ranks 11th nationally while his 42.08 in the 100 free ranks third.
Jakub Poliacik’s 1:35.16 in the 200 free is the 10th-fastest time in the country this season. He also ranks 10th in the 500 free and fourth in the 1000 free. Andy Roose shined in the backstroke events, posting the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 100 backstroke (46.70) and the seventh-fastest time in the 200 backstroke (1:40.81).
In the breaststroke, Eli Martin’s 52.53 (100) is the fourth-best time this season and his 1:54.69 (200) is the sixth-best time nationally.
On the women’s side, Kate Anderson’s time of 10:00.61 ranks third nationally. She also ranks second in the country in the 400 IM (4:23.73) along with Amanda Barnard (fourth, 4:24.31) and Delaney Bookstein (4:24.67).
Tech’s 400 free relay squad of Eliza Tan, Allison Vernon, Elyse Wood and Chiara Klein posted the nation’s top time (3:20.22). On the men’s side, Levente Balogh, Martin, Aidan Paro and Whitfield’s time of 1:25.52 is the sixth-fastest time in the 200 medley relay.
On the boards, Michayla Eisenberg (262.30), Sinead Valero (255.30) and Savanna Berry (251.90) rank first, second and third, respectively, on 1m. Eisenberg (306.85), Valero (263.45) and Cassidy Carlborg (251.45) sweep the top of the nation’s leaderboard on 3m.
Rocky Ramsland continued diving dominance with the nation’s-leading score on 3m (389.80). Nathan Cox’s mark of 366.15 leads the nation on 1m (366.15).
