ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Virginia Tech volleyball team capped off the Winthrop Invitational with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) over Old Dominion on Friday night at Winthrop Coliseum.

The first set opened with an early 5-2 lead for the Hokies before a 3-0 run featuring kills from Frances Torres and Ivy Cooper, along with a block from Destiny Walker and Layla Moore, pushed Tech ahead 10-4 and forced an Old Dominion timeout. Out of the break, the Hokies maintained their momentum, extending their lead to 20-13. Tech then closed the set with a 3-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Walker and two ODU errors. Adeline Hundl led the Hokies with five kills in the set, while Tech totaled six blocks.

The Hokies opened the second set with a 5-0 run to take an early 8-2 advantage and force another Monarchs timeout. Old Dominion battled back to even the score, and the two teams continued to trade points before Tech took a 22-20 lead, prompting another ODU timeout. The Hokies closed out the set with a block from Reese Hazelton and Izzy Mishler, securing the 25-23 win and a 2-0 match lead.

The third set remained tight early, with the teams battling to an 8-8 tie before Tech broke away with a 4-0 run featuring kills from Hazelton and blocks from Torres and Moore to force an ODU timeout. The Hokies continued to build their lead with another 4-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Walker and blocks from Torres, Hazelton and Mishler. Walker, assisted by Camilla Brandalise, delivered the final kill to give Tech a 24-18 advantage before an ODU service error sealed the 25-19 set win and the 3-0 sweep.
