Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG - On the heels of a 35-26 victory against the Maryland Terrapins, James Franklin and the Hokies will seek to secure consecutive statement road victories as they face Boston College at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26 at noon ET. The game, which will be streamed on ACC Network, is the first conference opponent the Hokies will face in the 2026 regular season.

The Hokies enter Saturday’s contest after flexing their offensive muscles in the win over Maryland. The Eagles cannot say the same.
Tech football traveled into College Park and took care of business this past weekend in what was the team’s first Power Four non-conference win since 2017. The electric offensive duo of quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer and tight end Luke Reynolds was on full display yet again as the pair connected for 12 receptions and 107 yards through the air, while tailbacks Jeffrey Overton, Jr. and Marcellous Hawkins, Jr. combined for 124 rush yards in the win.
Contrastingly, the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm in their Saturday contest against non-conference opponent Maine. While Boston College would emerge victorious, 22-16, quarterback Mason McKenzie was intercepted two times and the Eagles were stopped twice on 4th-and-1 scenarios in the first quarter. The six-point win is the team’s second single-digit victory in as many games, while the Hokies have outscored their opponents 152-50 this season.
Fans should keep an eye out to see what the Hokies can do offensively against a Boston College defense that has allowed 331 yards per game to opponents in 2026.
Both teams face off Saturday with a plethora of defensive standouts.
Both the Hokies and the Eagles boast defensive players that have had strong seasons through three games.
For Tech, defensive linemen Mylachi Williams and Cortez Harris have become a force for a team that led FBS in tackles for loss (32) and sacks (12) through two weeks of the regular season. The pair have accounted for a staggering six sacks for 47 yards in 2026 and have continued to wreak havoc alongside nationally touted linemen Kemari Copeland and Aycen Stevens.
The Eagles, contrastingly, find their most accomplished defensive players at a variety of positions. Linebacker Anthony Palano – who leads the team with 34 total tackles, half of which are solo – has snagged a pair of interceptions in three games this fall, while defensive backs KP Price and Marcus Upton have combined for 42 tackles, three pass deflections and two picks.

Tight End Luke Reynolds
Junior Luke Reynolds continued to display elite athleticism and impressive offensive talent against Maryland this past weekend, leading the Hokies with 12 receptions for 107 yards and a first quarter touchdown in the 35-26 victory. Through three games this fall, the Westford, Mass. native has accrued a staggering 25 receptions for 265 receiving yards alongside four touchdowns while also garnering national attention for his impressive play.
What makes Reynolds such a versatile player and a near-impossible tackle for opposing defenses is his ability to stretch plays after the catch. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound threat has continued to brush tackles off and turn small yardage opportunities into large offensive gains, especially doing so against the Terrapins last week.
Linebacker Kaleb Spencer
Gloucester, Va. native Kaleb Spencer has already jumped out to a hot start in 2026 after leading the Hokies with 67 tackles (31 solo) a year ago. In three starts this season, the senior paces the Hokies with 13 total tackles, 4.5 TFLs for 10 yards and three sacks for eight yards. Spencer has also been an asset through the air, logging a pass breakup and a deflection over the regular season thus far.
Fans should keep an eye on Spencer and the secondary against McKenzie, who threw two interceptions against Maine in the Eagles’ 22-16 win last Saturday.
Punter Nathan Totten
Hailing from Ashland, Ky., transfer punter Nathan Totten has brought his kicking talents to Blacksburg after most recently spending three years at Marshall. Now in maroon and orange, Totten has punted six times in the 2026 season for 268 yards, marking 44.7 yards per attempt. Four of the 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior’s punts have landed inside the 20-yard line.
