BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech softball finds themselves back on the diamond this week after claiming the No. 3 seed in the 2026 Allstate ACC Softball Championship. The conference tournament, which will take place at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, Va., from May 6 to May 9, features 12 of 15 ACC squads all aiming to hoist the trophy on the final day of competition.

The Hokies (44-9, 18-6 ACC) are slated to face the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 6 Virginia and No. 11 Pitt. While Tech has yet to play the lower-seeded Panthers in competition this season, the Hokies claimed two of three matchups against the Cavaliers this past April. Head coach Pete D’Amour’s squad will take to the field on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Tech softball arrives at the conference championship after a standout regular season campaign. The Hokies started the year swinging – to the tune of six straight wins, including two against SEC squad South Carolina – and refused to take the foot off the gas. From Feb. 20 to March 11, Tech would rattle off a staggering 15 consecutive victories, a third of which were achieved via run rule.

Soon after the impressive win streak, the Hokies would begin succeeding against conference competition, claiming series victories against NC State, Boston College, Clemson, then-No. 21 Virginia, North Carolina and Syracuse. Tech closed out the 2026 campaign with sweeps against the Tar Heels and the Orange, outscoring the competition 25-14 and 37-4 in respective series. The team’s 44 total wins on the year are the most in a season since 2019.

At the close of the regular season, the Hokies stand atop nearly every statistical metric compared to the team’s ACC counterparts. Tech leads the conference in hits (534), runs (436), RBIs (416), walks (229) and home runs (101) while doing so with a conference-leading .362 batting average. The team’s .656 slugging percentage is also first alongside a leading .448 on-base percentage.

A cast of elite-level athletes have uplifted the Hokies to their statistical dominance and historic record through 2026. Registering a team-high .440 batting average, sophomore and newly announced All-ACC First Team honoree Jordan Lynch has dominated at the plate to the tune of 80 hits and 18 home runs.  The Maryland native’s quickness on the basepath cannot be overstated, as her 13 stolen bases is also a team best. Alongside Lynch on the offense are Addison Foster and Nora Abromavage, the pair combining for 101 of the team’s 416 RBIs. The former has also demonstrated a tenacity for extra-base hits behind 18 doubles, which ties the single-season program record, while the latter’s 59 RBIs leads the Hokies. The duo are also two of six Hokies who find themselves recognized on the All-ACC Second Team for their efforts this season.

On the mound, a litany of standout performances from redshirt-freshman Bree Carrico - who was tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Year - and junior Emma Mazzarone helped to shut down opposing offenses throughout the year. The pair, who have collected numerous recognitions for their talents, are a combined 28-5 over 218.3 innings. The Hokies’ pitching battalion leads the conference both in ERA (2.91) and strikeouts (362).
