BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech lacrosse fell to the thirteenth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 13-9, Saturday afternoon. The loss brings the team 8-7 overall and 2-6 in ACC play.
The Hokies’ offense was held scoreless for 13 minutes until sophomore Sarah Murrell found the net for the squad’s first goal of the game.
Catherine Karman found a gap in the Irish defense under a minute into the second quarter for Tech’s second goal. Lauren Render scored off of a feed by Ally Phalines with five minutes remaining in the half, leaving the Hokies trailing 10-3 at the break.
Tech found momentum at the end of the third quarter, carrying over into the final 15 minutes. Render sparked the offense, adding two additional goals to post her fifth hat trick of the season. Sarah Murrell also tabbed two in the final frame for a hat trick, with Mia Pozzi and Cassandra Montgomery each adding one more tally to push the Hokies’ final score to 13-9.
In goal, Malie Follet posted a career-high 14 saves, her fifth game this season with 10 or more saves.
