Tech falls to North Carolina at ACC Championship

Hokies drop match on Wednesday in Cary, N.C.

Cary, N.C. – Virginia Tech falls to No. North Carolina 4-0 in the first round of the ACC Championship. 

The Tar Heels opened up the match by winning the doubles point with victories on Courts No. 1 and 2.

The Hokies looked to battle back in singles. Patrik Jurina started off strong with a 6-4 first-set win over No. 79 Roan Jones.

The Tar Heels took Court No. 5, and subsequently Court No. 4 to give them a 3-0 advantage. 

Ilyas Fahim dropped the first set, but battled back to split his match with a 6-3 second-set win, the third set at one-all when the match was abandoned. 

With splits on Fahim and Jurina’s courts, it came down to two tiebreakers in the second set of Courts No. 3 and No. 6. 

The match was clinched in the tiebreaker by North Carolina on Court No. 6.
