BLACKSBURG - The Hokies earned a 7-0 victory over Boston College on Sunday afternoon, securing the match with strong performances in both doubles and singles play.
The Hokies took an early advantage by claiming the doubles point. Frank Thompson and Drew Fishback set the tone with a 6-2 win, while Ilyas Fahim and Patrik Jurina battled through a tough tiebreak before falling 6-7 (3-7). Blake Hilsen and Eyal Shumilov clinched the doubles point for Tech with a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreak victory.
Momentum carried into singles play as the Hokies picked up wins on all six courts. Jurina opened singles action with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory. Fishback and Hilsen followed with straight-set wins to secure the match for Tech. Fishback posted a 6-2, 6-2 result, while Hilsen earned a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Shumilov and Fahim continued the success, pushing the Hokies’ lead to 6-0. Shumilov collected a 7-5, 6-0 victory, and Fahim battled through a first-set tiebreak before finishing with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win. Julian Lozano closed out the match with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 10-5 victory to complete the sweep.
