Hokies dominate VCU in a 7-0 victory

 

BLACKSBURG - Tech secured its third sweep of the season with a 7-0 victory against VCU at home. 

Ilyas Fahim and Patrik Jurina started the match off strong, winning the first doubles point 6-0. Frank Thompson and Drew Fishback fought hard in a close match to clinch the doubles point, winning 7-5. 

Tech continued to control the match as they entered singles. Fahim put Tech up 2-0 after claiming the first set 6-3 and building a 3-0 lead in the second set before his opponent retired. Fishback, Blake Hilsen, and Jurina each collected two set victories, extending the Hokies’ lead to 5-0. Fishback earned a 6-4, 6-2 win, Hilsen followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win, and Jurina secured a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Julian Lozano and Eyal Shumilov both battled through three sets. Lozano came away with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory, and Shumilov finished the sweep with a 6(8)-7(10), 6-3, 10-8 win.
