Simmonds Secures All-Time Spot to Cap Off the Hokie Invitational

Denzs Simmonds breaks into Virginia Tech's All-Time Top 10 list for shot put with a personal-best mark.

Blacksburg, Va. Denzs Simmonds secured the No. 9 spot in Virginia Tech’s all-time list, alongside multiple podium finishes for the Hokies to wrap up the final day of the Hokie Invitational.

Simmonds competed in the shot put and hit a personal-best mark of 17.94m (58’ 10.25”), which was good for first among collegiate athletes in the event, and secured the No. 9 spot on the program’s all-time list. 

On the women’s side, Katrin Brzyszkowska also finished first in the shot put with a throw of 16.42m (53’ 10.5”). This marks her second consecutive win in the event this season.

Field event podiums kept coming as Chiara Sistermann soared to a season-best 4.27m (14’), marking her third consecutive pole vault win of the season.

The Hokies will travel to Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty Bryant Tolsma Elite Invite on Jan. 30 - 31, before returning to Rector Field House to host the annual Alumni Weekend on Feb. 6-7 during the Doc Hale meet. Alumni are invited to join for a weekend of reconnecting and celebrating Virginia Tech Track & Field.
