LYNCHBURG, Va. — Maddox Hamm set a career-best mark and broke the Virginia Tech indoor pole vault record as he claimed the event title at the Liberty Kickoff at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Chiara Sistermann added a first-place finish on the women’s side to help the Hokies open the indoor season strong.
Hamm opened the season with a career-best 5.70m (18' 8.25"), winning the event and surpassing the previous Virginia Tech indoor record of 5.66m (18' 6.75") set by Deakin Volz in 2017.
He was followed by teammate Conner McLure, competing unattached, finished third with a clearance of 5.20m (17' 0.5").
Sistermann led the way for the women, clearing 4.20m (13' 9.25") to take first place. Erin Kelleher, competed unattached, finished fourth with a mark of 3.90m (12' 9.5"), while Kelsey Lovercheck placed ninth at 3.75m (12' 3.5").
