CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Hokie women upset the No. 19 Duke Blue Devils, earning the win 134-109. The men, currently ranked 17th, also came out on top, taking down Duke 147-87.
The squads posted 17 Top 25 times nationally, highlighted by Brendan Whitfield's 100 free swim (41.79) and his 50 freestyle to lead off the 200 free relay (19.10) – both of which rank No. 3 in the nation.
Whitfield also posted a 1:26.10 in the 200 free, good for 10th in the nation. The men’s 200 medley relay squads tied for first place, ranking 10th nationally (1:26.10). The women’s first-place 200 free relay recorded a 1:29.86, good for a No. 11 national ranking. Carmen Weiler Sastre tied for No. 12 nationally in the 100 back with her second-place 52.07 swim, and jumped to 20th in the nation in the 200 free (1:45.43).
Rocky Ramsland posted a 328.50 on 1m, good for the 10th-best score in the country. On 3m, Nathan Cox scored a 366.98, good for 10th nationally, with Jacob Fisher coming in behind him at 13th (250.18). Bengisu Caymaz ranks 18th nationally and fifth in program history in the 1000 free with her time of 9:49.47, and Kate Anderson ranks 21st nationally with a 9:52.65.
Emily Santos joined the nationally-ranked Hokies with a 1:00.72 swim in the 100 breast, the 19th-fastest time in the country this season. Esther Park jumped into the program Top 10 times (No. 10) with her 1:01.61 100 breast. On 1m, Michayla Eisenberg ranked 20th (269.70), Peyton Guzeic ranked 21st (268.80), and Grace Austin ranked 23rd (264.08). Jacob Fisher posted a 294.15 ranking 20th, with Nathan Cox coming in at No. 25 (287.10).
