Hokies host ITA Atlantic Regionals, main draw beginning Oct. 10

The tournament is being held Oct. 9-13, with all ten Hokies competing in the main draw

BLACKSBURG – The Hokies fall season returns to Blacksburg as they host the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, held between the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and Washington Street Courts. 

The tournament kicked off Thursday with the qualifying round, with the main draw beginning Friday morning. All ten Hokies will be competing in the main draw, singles starting at 9 a.m.

The Hokies kicked off the main draw with five singles victories across the board. Drew Fishback, Ilyas Fahim, Julian Lozano, Thomás Brandão, and Nicolas Iantosca took home wins in R64. 

All ten Hokies won their R64 doubles matches, with eight Hokies advancing to R16. 

Three Hokie pairs competed in the quarterfinals: Frank Thompson/Julian Lozano, Drew Fishback/Victor Kimpel, and Eyal Shumilov/Blake Hilsen

In the round of 32, two Tech players defeated their opponents to advance to the round of 16. Julian Lozano won 6-3, 6-0 over Howard’s Michael Major. Thomás Brandão defeated Esteve Agusti from James Madison 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. 

The Hokies showed up strong in doubles, with duo Drew Fishback and Victor Kimpel competing in the semi final round with an 8-5 victory in quarter finals.
