Hokies start 2025 with straight set sweep of N.C. Central

Ranstead leads attack with 12 kills Friday morning

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team got their first victory of the 2025 season Monday morning in the season opener against N.C. Central, a straight set sweep 25-18, 32-30, 28-26. The attack was led by graduate transfer Ainsley Ranstead who recorded a dozen kills, while she was joined in double figures by freshman Brianna Holladay who made her first career start.

Tech got out to a quick start with some early kills from Jordan Hallman, Payton Woods and Ranstead giving the Hokies the lead at 3-2, one that they would not relinquish. In the second set, Tech trailed by as many as six points at 19-13 but battled back to tie the affair at 23 and eke out a set win after an attack error and a kill by Ranstead.

The Hokies closed the match with a 28-26 third set victory in which they led by as many as six points.
