BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men’s basketball added another valuable piece to its 2025-26 roster Thursday afternoon with the signing of Brett Freeman, a shifty 6-foot-5 point guard from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, N.C.

Known for his ability to score at all three levels, Freeman provides additional depth at the point guard position, accompanying Delaware transfer Izaiah Pasha and returning sophomore Ben Hammond.

"We’re thrilled to welcome Brett Freeman to our Hokie family," Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young said. "Brett is a versatile, big guard who can score the ball at a high clip, play and defend multiple positions and impact the game in a number of ways. He comes from a great program in Charlotte, and we’re excited about what he’ll bring to our team both on and off the court.”

Freeman had a standout senior season, earning conference player of the year and all-district honors, while setting his school’s single-season scoring record with 604 points. According to MaxPreps, he averaged 24.2 points per game, including a remarkable 49-point outing in December against The Rock School – one of two 40-point performances on the year.

He consistently showcased elite scoring ability, tallying 20-or-more points in 18 of his team’s first 26 games. By mid-January, he was averaging 28.3 points per game and was named one of 10 finalists for the North Carolina Mr. Basketball award.

Freeman’s offensive versatility will be a key asset for the Hokies. His ability to create off the dribble, knock down shots from beyond the arc, and finish through contact gives Virginia Tech a dynamic scoring option in the backcourt.

He is the third high school signee in Virginia Tech’s 2025 class, joining Christian Gurdak and Sin'Cere Jones.
