BLACKSBURG – No. 13/15 Virginia Tech fell to No. 7/9 Florida State, 13-4, on Friday night at Tech Softball Park.
How It Happened: Florida State 13, Virginia Tech 4
Florida State scored in each of the first three innings to take an early 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded in the top of the third for the Seminoles, Cassie Grizzard forced a groundout to second to get the Hokies out of the jam.
A single by Rachel Castine and a 10-pitch walk by Annika Rohs got runners on first and second for Cori McMillan who drilled a single to right center field for the RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-1.
With one out, Kylie Aldridge delivered a huge triple in the bottom of the fourth and Bre Peck followed it up with an RBI single down the right field line to make it 6-2.
After the Seminoles tacked on another run on a sacrifice fly, McMillan continued her stellar day at the plate with a solo home run to start the bottom of the fifth and make it 7-3.
A sacrifice fly followed by two RBI singles led to Florida State taking a 10-3 lead after the top of the sixth and the Seminoles tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh. McMillan hit her second home run of the night in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hokies did not score enough to complete the comeback.
