RALEIGH, N.C. — Emma Mazzarone pitched a two-hit gem as the No. 11/13 Hokies defeated NC State, 3-0, on Saturday night at Dail Softball Stadium.

Bre Peck launched the 49th home run of her career — one shy of tying the all-time Virginia Tech record (50) — in the win.

With the win, the Hokies extend their win streak to 12 games.

How It Happened: Virginia Tech 3, NC State 0
It was a pitcher’s duel for the first three innings as Emma Mazzarone threw just 17 pitches in her first 3.0 innings pitched to set the tone.

After a Rachel Castine walked, Bre Peck broke the game open in the fourth inning with a two-run bomb to left field to give the Hokies a 2-0 lead.

Tech scored its third run of the game off a Wolfpack error as Cori McMillan advanced home on an errant throw.

Mazzarone held the Wolfpack without a hit until the bottom of the sixth. Despite singles in the sixth and seventh, NC State was never able to rally to cut the deficit.

The win marks the second complete-game shutout victory for Mazzarone this season.
