BLACKSBURG – It was announced by the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) that senior Cori McMillan would be drafted into the league for its inaugural season during the 10th annual Gobblers.
Kim Ng, the commissioner of the AUSL, presented McMillan with her golden ticket to signify her joining the league.
The nation’s home run leader has been explosive at the plate all season. She leads the country with 25 home runs and 0.53 home runs per game. McMillan also leads the team and the ACC with her 1.035 slug percentage.
Currently batting .441 on the year, McMillan leads the Hokies in hits (63), home runs (25), RBIs (54), slugging percentage (1.035) and on base percentage (.551). Her 25 home runs is a new single-season program record as she broke her own single-season record of 21 home runs last season.
The senior, who currently bats leadoff, has hit nine of her 25 home runs in the first at-bat of the game. No stranger to the big moments either, McMillan hit the walk-off home run in Tech’s 6-5 win over No. 16 Stanford.
The Greensboro, N.C., native has started all 47 games for the Hokies this season. Despite transferring from Radford two seasons ago, McMillan is currently fourth on the Hokies’ all-time home run list with 46. She earned First Team All-ACC honors as a junior and was named an NFCA Second Team All-American in 2024.
McMillan is the second Hokie to receive a golden ticket. On April 13, Emma Lemley was the first player in the country to be drafted into the league for its inaugural season.
Virginia Tech is the only school so far to have two golden ticket winners.
