Hokies defeat Virginia, 8-4, in ACC Opener

Tech recorded at least eight runs for the 10th time this season

BLACKSBURG – No. 17/18 Virginia Tech rallied to defeat No. 23/RV Virginia 8-4 to win their first ACC game on Friday night at Tech Softball Park.

Emma Lemley earned her ninth win of the season in the circle and Sophie Kleiman recorded her first save of the season.

The Hokies are now 1-0 at home this season as well as 1-0 in ACC play.

How It Happened: Virginia Tech 8, Virginia 4
The Hokies scored four runs in the third inning to regain their lead after the Cavaliers scored three runs in the first two innings.

Annika Rohs scored after Michelle Chatfield singled to left center to make it a 3-1 contest. Cori McMillan, Chatfield, and Bre Peck scored in consecutive at bats to give Tech the 4-3 lead going into the fourth inning.

Rohs scored her second run of the evening after a sacrifice fly from Peck in the fourth inning to regain the Hokies’ lead after the Cavaliers tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Jordan Lynch extended the Hokie lead with a two-RBI double to center to make it a 7-4 contest.

Up 7-4, a single by Rohs brought Rachel Castine home for the eighth and final run.

Sophie Kleiman shined in relief as she recorded six strikeouts over three innings pitched.
