GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Hokies posted three top-eight finishes and five new top-ten program times on Day Three of the ACC Championships.
Nico Garcia Saiz kicked the day off for the Hokies with a 23rd-place finish in the 400 IM, advancing him to the Bonus Final. He took 23rd overall with a time of 3:46.82.
In the 100 fly, the Hokies put on an impressive showing with five of their seven swimmers qualifying for finals.
Youssef Ramadan took second in his heat swimming a 45.09, earning a lane in the A-Final where he placed fifth (44.83). Will Hayon placed 12th with a time of 45.54, advancing to the B-Final and taking 12th overall (45.65).
Mario Molla Yanes tied for eighth place in the 100 fly, requiring a swim-off for the final spot in the A-Final. Molla Yanes swam a personal best 44.87, securing him the eighth lane where he took fourth overall with a program third-best 44.63.
In the third 100 fly prelim heat, Landon Gentry (45.76) took first, Gabriel Yuk (46.17) took second and Tanish George Mathew (46.46) placed third. Gentry and Yuk advanced to the B-Final and C-Final, respectively, where Gentry took 14th with a program sixth-best time of 45.72, and Yuk took 24th overall moving into the No. 10 spot on the Hokies’ all-time program records list with a 46.32.
Luis Dominguez (1:33.06) and Brendan Whitfield (1:33.87) placed seventh and 17th, respectively, in the 200 free prelims. Dominguez competed in the A-Final and earned eighth overall with a 1:33.35, and Whitfield finished 20th overall following his 1:34.04 in the C-Final.
On the women’s side, Emma Atkinson swam a 1:46.01 200 free, earning her a spot in the C-Final. With a time of 1:45.35, she took 18th overall in finals.
Carmen Weiler Sastre swam in the B-Final for the 200 free following her 1:45.50 in prelims. She recorded a 1:44.14 in finals, earning her ninth overall and a new program third-best time.
In her 200 free time trial, Chiara Klein posted a 1:46.87, good for eighth-best in program history.
