Virginia Tech lost to Penn, 4-3, in their first match of the weekend, ending an unbeaten start to the season.
Maxime St. Hilaire and Frank Thompson fell to Manfredi Graziani and Shaurya Bharadwa, 6-3 to start doubles play. The other two doubles matches were nail biters — Ilyas Fahim and Scott Sculley battled back and forth, but ultimately lost in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (2). Alberto Orso and Matt Harper were tied 6-6 with duo Tal Goodman and Parashar Bharadwaj when the match was abandoned.
In singles play, Maxime St. Hilaire, Alberto Orso, and Victor Kimpel took home wins. St. Hilaire defeated Manfredi Graziani 6-3, 7-5. Orso took down Matthew Rutter, toughing out three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Kimpel won 4-6, 7-5, 10-2 against Parashar Bharadwaj. Both Eyal Shumilov and Ilyas Fahim extended their play to three sets, but in the end came short.
The squad will look to bounce back on Saturday when they play Yale in Philadelphia at 1 p.m.
