Hokies battle with No. 10 NC State

BLACKSBURG - The Hokies fell to No. 10 NC State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at home. 
 
Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng headlined the doubles play for Tech as they took down the tenth-ranked doubles pair in the nation of Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova, 6-2 on Court 2. Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu put up a good fight in an attempt to take the doubles point for the Hokies, but ultimately fell short on Court 3. 
 
NC State picked up straight-set wins on Courts 1, 5, and 6 in singles to clinch the match.
 
Tamara Barad Itzhaki picked a three-set win for the Hokies on Court 4, returning after going down 6-4 in the first set. She won the remaining two sets, 6-4, 6-4 to take down No. 110 Sophie Abrams.
 
Katie Andreini took No. 43 Anna Zyryanova to the wire on Court 2, going to a third-set ten-point tiebreak, falling 10-4. Aksu fell to Gina Dittmann in a tightly contest three-set match.
