BLACKSBURG- The Hokies came out victorious over the Blue Hens in a nail-biting 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng kept their fine doubles form going with a 6-4 win on Court 2. Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova clinched the doubles point for the Hokies as they battled for a 6-4 win on Court 1. Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu narrowly fell in a 7-3 tiebreak.
On Court 6, Cheng got the Hokies their first singles win of the afternoon as she swept Julieta Honrubia 6-3, 6-2. Aksu mounted an impressive comeback after falling 7-4 in the first-set tiebreak. She won the following two sets 6-2, 6-2 to complete the win over Alex Staiculescu.
Andreini clinched the match for the Hokies on Court 1 as she won 7-5 in the third-set tiebreak over Slade Coetzee. She won the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set 6-4. The third set was a close contest until Andreini found the momentum to propel herself, and her team, to the win.
Radulova returned to the singles lineup but dropped a three-setter to Alina Vasilenko, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Uslu nearly earned another singles point for the Hokies but fell 7-5 in the third set of her match on Court 2.
