Durham, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team fell to eighth-ranked Duke 81-59 Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the first ACC game of the season. Carleigh Wenzel led the Hokies with 19 points in the game, including the team's first nine in the second half.
The loss moves Tech to 7-3 (0-1) while Duke improved to 9-2 (1-0).
Wenzel's 19 points were a career best for an ACC contest and she was joined in double figures by Carys Baker (11) and Samyha Suffren (10).
Tech shot 43% from the floor, but were plagued by 18 turnovers and were outrebounded by the Blue Devils.
The Hokies are back on the floor on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they play host to Radford at 4 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
