BLACKSBURG – Highlighted by 12 high school captains and four state championships as a class, with six players still competing for titles in 2024, Virginia Tech football head coach Brent Pry welcomed his fourth signing class to Blacksburg on Wednesday, as the Hokies introduced 19 signees on National Signing Day.
Pry and his staff continue to focus on the Hokies' recruiting footprint, inking 12 in-state signees, including seven ranked within the top 25 in the Commonwealth per 247 Sports. Sixteen of the 19 signees are from within a 325-mile radius of Blacksburg, including OL Carter Stallard (Christiansburg, Va.), LB Brett Clatterbaugh (Culpeper, Va.), LB Noah Chambers (Prince George’s County, Maryland), DB Jahmari DeLoatch (Chesapeake, Va.), RB Jeffrey Overton, Jr. (Woodbridge, Va.), and WR Shamarius Peterkin (Winston-Salem, N.C.), along with DL Zeke Chinwike (Virginia Beach, Va.), Knahlij Harrell (Virginia Beach, Va.) and WR Jayden Anderson (Virginia Beach, Va.).
The class represents six states. In addition to Virginia, four signees hail from the Carolinas, with one each from Maryland, Ohio and Texas. ATH Luke Stuewe is the lone signee from Ohio. The Avon Lake, Ohio legacy signee is the son of former Virginia Tech receiver Michael Stuewe, and could play receiver or safety. Richmond, Virginia linebacker Brennan Johnson from Highland Springs High School, joins Stuewe as a legacy signee. Johnson's father, Loren played defensive back for the Hokies from 1995 to 1998. Brennan's brother, Braylon is a sophomore defensive back on the Hokies' roster.
On the offensive side of the ball, Tech welcomed two quarterbacks, one running back, three receivers, two offensive linemen, and one athlete. The defensive signees include three defensive linemen, three linebackers and four defensive backs.
Based on the average prospect ranking Virginia Tech's 2024 National Signing Day class ranks fourth in the ACC per Rivals, sixth in the 247 Sports Composite, and seventh according to On3. Nationally, the Hokies' class has peaked at No. 22 among NCAA FBS programs, per Rivals, based on average prospect ranking.
Tech's 2024 signing day class achieved a composite win-loss record of 177-50 (.779 winning percentage) during the 2024 season.
