CHARLOTTE - The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team fell to Iowa 71-52 Sunday evening in the Ally Tipoff, hosted by the Charlotte Sports Foundation.

The loss drops Tech to 1-1 on the season, ahead of its next match vs. UNC Asheville Wednesday night at home on Carillon Clinic Court.

Tech came out on the front foot, scoring the game’s first points on a Carleigh Wenzel 3-pointer and then briefly holding a 5-3 lead after Rose Micheaux scored a jumper with 8:24 in the first. From there, Iowa raced ahead taking a 14–11 lead by the first media timeout, and would not relinquish the lead.

Wenzel (14) and Micheaux (12) were the two Hokies who scored in double figures on a day where the team struggled from the field shooting 35.6%.

Iowa was paced by 20 points from Lucy Olsen, who was joined in double figures by Addison O’Grady (18) and Hannah Stuelke (16).
