BLACKSBURG – Kicker John Love will wear the No. 25 jersey when the Hokies travel to play Stanford this weekend. This will be the third time the redshirt sophomore has worn the jersey and the second time during the 2024 season.

Love wore No. 25 in the Hokies’ home opener win against Marshall, where the Spartanburg, South Carolina native converted his lone field goal attempt of the day (42 yards). When he dons the jersey this weekend, he will become the first Hokie to wear the jersey twice during the regular season since former safety Divine Deablo did so in 2019 against Old Dominion and Wake Forest.

The Hokie placekicker receives the honor of wearing No. 25 against Stanford after an impressive showing against No. 8 Miami last Friday. In the contest, Love drilled 57 and 52-yard field goals, the former eclipsing his previous career high of 46 yards. For his accomplishments in the game, Love was named ACC Specialist of the Week. This season, the redshirt sophomore is currently 8-for-9 on field goals through four games and a perfect 16-for-16 on extra points.

The weekly tradition of wearing No. 25 started in 2016 and has continued each season. Each week, a member of the special teams wears the number to recognize how influential Frank Beamer was to Tech football both as a player and a coach. The jersey number was retired in 2002. Fans can find more information on who has worn the jersey in the past here.
