BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s basketball’s first year Head Coach Megan Duffy is days away from making her competitive debut on the sidelines on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. Her tenure officially gets underway on Nov. 4 with a 5 p.m. tip against UNC Wilmington, a game that can be seen on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies’ roster features six returners who won the ACC regular-season title, the first of its kind for the program a season ago. That group includes the leading returning scorer in Matilda Ekh (10.4 ppg.) and fellow senior Rose Micheaux who started in 18 contests a season ago.

Carleigh Wenzel, the longest-tenured Hokie returns to the backcourt on the heels of her redshirt freshman season that saw her feature in all 33 games and score in double figures four times in limited minutes behind an All-American.

Carys Baker and Samyha Suffren who saw limited action last year return in new roles and Mackenzie Nelson who earned a redshirt is poised for a breakout season.

The Hokies’ early season schedule presents some unique tests and opportunities and they open the season at home versus UNC Wilmington before taking on Big Ten champs and Final Four participants Iowa at the Ally Tipoff in Charlotte in a rematch of a game that took place in that event a season ago.

Also on the docket is an opportunity against quality competition at the Elevance Health Fort Myers Tip-Off where the Hokies will take on Davidson in the opening game, and the second game of a home-and-home with Big Ten foe Rutgers. The Hokies will once again take to the road for the SEC/ACC Challenge, this time traveling to Georgia.

Squeezed in between the non-conference slate is an early December game at Duke on the eighth in the initial ACC game of the season.

In the new 18-team league, the Hokies will face each team once with the exception of rival Virginia who Tech will play twice. Interestingly, the Hokies will travel to the Research Triangle three times (Duke, North Carolina and NC State) while all three league newcomers will make the trip to Cassell.
