BLACKSBURG – On the heels of his record-breaking performance last Thursday night in a 42-21 win over Boston College, Hokies' running back Bhayshul Tuten has garnered national recognition. In addition to earning ACC Running Back of the Week accolades, Tuten has also been named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week, Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week (offense), East-West Shrine Bowl Offensive Breakout Player of the Week and Reese's Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week.
Tuten (5-11, 209) tallied a career-high 266 rushing yards, setting the school’s single-game rushing record. The Paulsboro, New Jersey product's record-setting performance came on just 18 carries, a 14.8-yard average, tops among any player in program history who cleared 200 yards in a game.
The senior recorded three rushing touchdowns and a 20-yard reception for another score, finishing the game with 286 all-purpose yards. He has now scored a TD in nine straight games dating back to last season.
It marked his first career game with four touchdowns. Tuten is one of seven Virginia Tech players to have at least four TDs in a game. Lee Suggs is the only player with five.
