Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Hokie Swim and Dive teams won their first meets of the season over George Washington in a commanding fashion. The women’s team won 191-107 while the men’s team won 184-112.
Tech Women:
Carmen Weiler Sastre, Emily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs, and Emily Claesson kicked the season off with a 1:42.38 first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, before Kate Anderson and Sydney Starnes took home first and third, respectively, in the 1000 free.
Weiler Sastre took first in the 200 free, with Chiara Klein following her up in third. Meneses Kovacs placed first in the 100 back with a 55.66, while Janika Perezous took third with a 57.44.
Santos (1:04.21, 2:19.11), Esther Park (1:05.00, 2:22.12), and Allison Henry (1:05.50, 2:22.57) swept the podiums in the 100 and 200 breast, while Claesson (23.25), Fanni Gyurinovics (24.01), and Anna Summers (24.05) swept the 50 free.
Claesson recorded another first-place finish in the 100 free with a 50.65, while Parker Bolduc (51.89) and Gyurinovics (52.08) took second and third. Weiler Sastre took home another first-place finish in the 200 back with a 1:57.89, while Sofia Salvato (2:05.19) and Alex Eastmond (2:05.86) rounded out the podium.
Weiler Sastre was on fire, placing first in the 200 free for her third individual win of the day while Chiara Klein finished behind her in second. Julia Murphy (2:07.30) and Christine Datovech (2:08.88) kept the momentum going with a second and third-place finish in the 200 fly.
Klein swam to a first-place 5:01.14 finish in the 500 free alongside Kate Anderson, who took second with a 5:02.75. Delaney Bookstein set a personal best in the 200 IM with a 2:06.99 second-place finish.
The divers made a splash with a first-place finish from Michayla Eisenberg (268.95) and a third-place finish from Miah Fisher (260.25) on 1-meter and a third-place finish from Eisenberg on 3-meter with a 274.50.
The 400 free relay team of Weiler Sastre, Meneses Kovacs, Summers, and Claesson closed out the meet with a 3:24.46 first-place finish.
Tech Men:
Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, Mario Molla Yanes, and Brendan Whitfield kicked off the meet with a first-place 1:26.36 200 medley relay, followed up by Nico Garcia Saiz taking second in the 1000 free. Luis Dominguez Calonge and Whitfield took first and second in the 200 free, before Molla Yanes won with a personal best 48.91 in the 100 back.
The men swept the 100 breast podium, with Coll Marti taking first with 53.90, and Joseph Hong and Eli Martin tying for second (56.21). Landon Gentry placed second in the 200 fly, before Ramadan (20.07), Whitfield (20.14), and Will Hayon (20.77) swept the 50 free podium.
Molla Yanes won the 100 free with a 36.39, tailed by Danny Bishop in second with a 47.50.
Garcia Saiz took first in the 200 back with a 1:50.73, followed by a Hokie sweept of the 200 breast with Hong (2:01.23) taking first, Martin (2:02.78) taking second, and Pablo Silva (2:06.55) taking third.
The Hokies continued to shine as Dominguez Calonge placed first in the 500 free with a 4:40.40, Ramadan took first in the 100 fly with a 47.64, and Coll Marti won the 200 IM with a 1:46.28.
On the boards, the divers swept 1-meter with Rocky Ramsland (325.58) taking first, Zachary Shaddy (312.83) taking second, and Jacob Fisher (310.80) finishing third. Fisher and Nathan Cox tied for first on 3-meter (376.80) while Rocky Ramsland (341.25) placed third.
Ramadan, Whitfield, Molla Yanes, and Dominguez Calonge closed out the day with a first-place 2:57.71 400 free relay.

The Hokies will split up competition with a squad traveling to the SMU Classic (Oct. 11-12) in Dallas, Texas. Tech also hosts a home meet against Carson-Newman (Oct. 12) at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
