Hokies overpower Norfolk State with dominating fourth set

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech volleyball captured a 3-1 victory over Norfolk State on Friday afternoon.  The Hokies (3-3) took down the Spartans (2-4) 25-19, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-9.  The fourth set was the largest margin of victory in a set the Hokies have recorded this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Offensive action jumped out early in set one, with Belle Patrick tallying five kills, only to ramp up in set two.  Both Patrick and Jasmine Robinson collected five kills in the second, with Robinson hitting .833.  Viktoria Wahlgren collected 17 assists in set two, the highest in a set for far this season, and Sarah Malinowski recorded three block assists.  Pearce led efforts in the third with six kills but the squad came up short and Norfolk State retained set three.  The dominating set-four win came with an all-around effort from the Hokies, with four totaling three or more digs, three recording a service ace and four reaching two or more kills.

The Hokies will face Cleveland State for their second game in the Hokie Invitational at 7 p.m.
