CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Virginia Tech track and field athletes Chidozie Kalu and Lindsey Butler have been named ACC Performers of the Week, announced the conference on Tuesday.
Chidozie Kalu was named the Men's Field Performer and Rookie of the Week, while Butler claimed the Women's Track Performer of the Week.
"It was a great opening mark for Chidozie this past weekend," said associate head coach Paul Zalewski. "He equaled his personal-best from the indoor season and did a good job responding to the competition. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do with a few more weeks of work as we approach the championship season."
In Charlottesville, Kalu jumped a season-best distance of 52' 0" (15.85m) finishing second in the men's triple jump at the Virginia Challenge. His mark moved him up to 14th in the NCAA , second in the ACC, with two weeks to go until the conference championships.
In Winston-Salem, N.C. Butler recorded her fifth program record at Virginia Tech on Friday, competing in the 1500m invite at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Butler crossed the finish line third among collegiate athletes with a personal-best time of 4:07.96. Her record breaking time is currently tied for third in the NCAA, ranking 14th on the USTFCCCA All-Time Performance List.
Butler holds the indoor school records in the 800m (2:01.23), 1000m (2:41.00), mile (4:31.41), and distance medley relay (10:52.51).
Up Next, the men's and women's track and field teams will be competing in Jacksonville, Fla. and Des Moines, Iowa on April 26 - 27.
