BLACKSBURG, Va. --Virginia Tech received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the No. 15/16 Hokies put 10 runs on the board and beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10-4 Saturday.
Junior Emma Lemley (10-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (34-9-1, 16-4). The right-hander went 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
In the batter's box, the Hokies were paced by senior Addy Greene, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Sophomore Trinity Martin put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Michelle Chatfield also chipped in for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Virginia Tech plated two runs when Greene left the yard with senior Emma Ritter aboard.
The Yellow Jackets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Hokies expanded their advantage in the second. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of junior Cori McMillan, which brought the Hokies lead to 6-1.
Georgia Tech narrowed Virginia Tech's lead to 6-3 before the Hokies stretched the advantage to 9-3 in the third inning. The Hokies scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer from Martin that scored senior Cameron Fagan and sophomore Kylie Aldridge.
Virginia Tech kept the Yellow Jackets without a run before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Hokies pushed across a run on Chatfield's leadoff homer off sophomore Jaidyn Studebaker, bringing the Virginia Tech advantage to 10-3. Georgia Tech put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hokies still coasted to the 10-4 win.
