BLACKSBURG - The Hokies pick up a ranked ACC win at home, as they defeated no. 37 Syracuse 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu kicked off the morning with a 6-2 win in doubles, which was followed up by a 6-3 win from Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng on Court 2 to clinch the doubles point for the Hokies. Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova's match was called at 4-5 due to the Hokies taking the doubles point.
Tamara Barad Itzhaki kicked off the afternoon with a singles sweep, as she took down Polina Kozyreva 6-2, 6-1. Aksu notched another win on the season, sweeping Victoria Kanapatskaya, winning 6-4, 6-2.
Katie Andreini grabbed the clinching win for Tech, winning her first set with ease before battling from down 3-5 in the second to win 7-4 in the tiebreak. Andreini's match ended 6-1, 7-6 over Emilie Elde on Court 2.
Cheng completed a two-set comeback against Shiori Ito, after dropping the first set 6-3. She responded in a big way, winning the second set 7-3 in the tiebreak. Cheng won the match 10-8 in the ten-point third-set tiebreak.
Uslu picked up a huge ranked win over no. 48 Miyuka Kimoto in three sets on Court 1. After winning the first set 6-4, Uslu dropped the second 6-1 but responded positively to win the third 6-4.
